What is Autism Waiver?

The Autism Waiver is a Medicaid-funded program that provides specialized services to children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to help them remain in their homes and communities rather than institutional care. The waiver offers a variety of supports such as:

  • Intensive Individual Support Services (IISS) - One-on-one assistance to help the child manage daily tasks and behavior.

  • Respite Care - Provides one-on-one support for children with autism, focusing on improving their behavior and daily living skills through individualized care in home or community settings.

  • Family Consultation - Provides families with expert advice and guidance to enhance their understanding and management of their child’s needs and behavior.

  • Behavioral Support - Focuses on developing positive behavior strategies to address challenging behaviors, ensuring the child’s success in home and community environments.
